Headstone Point — What a waste!

img_0010From Rocky Point, I took a quick shot of Headstone Point where the breakers hit the foot of the cliff and make a pretty picture. This morning, the scene was a little hazy as a result of the smoke emanating from a burning pile of rubbish at the top of the cliff. The general waste on Norfolk Island is disposed here and if you scrutinise the photo above, you’ll spy a small dump truck beside the burning debris. Norfolk islanders, in general, are avid recyclers of most materials and barring what can be burned, all other recyclable material is sent off shore to waste management facilities in Australia.

I thought this was a poignant picture of what man does when we invade an island.
